This member of the Cucurbitaceae family was given this mane by Célestin Alfred Cogniaux in 1896. It is found in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow up to 20 centimetres in diameter, the vines up to one and a half meter long.
