This member of the Geraniaceae family was described by Christian Ferdinand Friedrich Hochstetter in 1847. It is found in the eastern part of Africa, growing in a rich but well drained soil with quite some water and part shade. It will raise up to 75 centimetres from a four centimetre caudex. The flowers are white to greenish yellow with dark pink markings. It can be reproduced both by cuttings and seeds.

The genera name from Greek; pelargos; 'stork' for the ripening fruits, which resembles the bills of storks. The species name means 'five'loabed' for the leaves.
