This member of the Cactaceae
family was described by Martin Cárdenas
in 1950: It grows in the heights of Bolivia, in a well drained soil
with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to ten centimetres
in diameter, the stems to three meters in height. It can be reproduced
by seeds from the pink flowers or with fresh cuttings.
Named after the
French astronomist Nicolas Claude Fabri de Peiresc
