This little member of the Crassulaceae family was given this name by Hellmut R. Toelken in 1978. It is found in the southern Namibia and western South Africa, along Oranje River, growing slowly in grit or other well drained soil with little to some water and some sun in wintertime. The swollen root can grow into five centimetres in diameter, the whole plant up to twelve centimetres. The flowers are pale greenish yellow with tiny red stripes.

The genera name is an anagram of Cotyledon; a closely-related genus. The species name means 'similar'.

This is a winter-grower.
