This member of the
Hyacinthaceae family was
given this name
by Augustin Pyramus de Candolle. It is found
in Karoo,
Namaqualand, South Africa and Namibia, growing in sand or well drained soil
with some water and lots of sun. The bulb will grow up to
six centimetres in diameter, the leaves will get 40 centimetres
long. The flowers are pale pink to dark red.
Named after August Ferdinand von Veltheim (1741-1801) of
Brunswick, a German patron of botany. |
