This member of
the Vitaceae family was given this name by Bernard M. Descoings in 1960.
It is found in the dry north western Namibia and Angola, growing in grit or
other well drained soil with little to some water and lots of sun.
In some areas, it will develop into a two meter dense bush with
a base of 60 centimetres. Other places, it will only grow to a
massive 50 centimetre caudex with few branches. The flowers are
greenish yellow, the fruits bright red and hairy.
The genera name
from the Greek kyphos; 'tumor' or ,'hump' and stemma;
'garland' or 'crown'. The species name from the locals name in
Angola: Odre. |
