This member of the Fabaceae family was
given this name by Jean Baptiste Antoine Pierre de Monnet de Lamarck
in 1786. It is found in Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Central African
Republic, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sudan,
Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zaïre and Zimbabwe. It is growing in a well drained soil with
some water and lots of sun. The stem starts as a nice caudex, but
grow into a 35-60 centimetre slim stem, forming a three to ten meter
high tree with large, orange-red flowers.
The genera name from Greek;
eryhros; 'red' for the mostly red flowers. The species name
means 'from Abyssinia', present day Ethiopia. |
