The caudex can grow to two centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to seven centimetres in height. The flowers are from white over cream to light pink with red markings.

The genera name from Greek; pelargos; 'stork' for the ripening fruits, which resembles the bills of storks. The species name means 'live in quarts' as a rock dweller.

This is a winter-grower, flowering in the late winter.
