This member of the Asclepiadaceae*
family was described by Pierre Choux in 1923. It is found on Madagascar,
growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of
sun. The tubers can grow to three centimetres or more in diameter,
the vines can grow to one or even two metres. The flowers are crème coloured, and the plant can be reproduced both by
seeds and cuttings.
The genera name comes
from Greek kynos; meaning 'dog' and anchein; 'to
choke'. The species name because is is found in the Andringitra
Massif.
*)Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Asclepiadaceae is now part of the Apocynaceae.
