Lost it before it even started to grow - might been dead when I bought it.

This member of the Iridaceae family was described by Carl Linnaeus Junior in 1782. It's from the Southern Cape in South Africa, growing in clay with some to lots of water and some sun. It will raise to 40 centimetres. The flowers are blue over violet to white, and it can be reproduced both by seeds and dividing of the corm/bulb.

The genera name is named after Johannes Moraeus, father-in-law of Linnaeus. The species name from Latin poly; 'many' and Greek anthos; 'flowers'.

It is found growing on flats and lower slopes, mainly clay, in areas with year round rainfall, and blooms different times a year. Flowers open midday and close in the late afternoon. Colours from blue over violet to white.
