This member of the Sterculiaceae*
family was described by K. Schumann in 1904. It is from Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia
and Tanzania, where it
grows in open forests with some water and some sun. It will grow to
ten meters with a trunk one meter in diameter. The flowers are
greenish to yellowish, and the plant can be reproduced both by seeds
and cuttings.
The genera name after
the Latin god; Sterculius. The species name from Greek
rhynchos; 'beak' and carpa; 'fruit'.
