This member of the Passifloraceae family was given this name by W. J. J. O. de Wilde in 1971. It is only found in Tanzania, growing in a well drained soil.N ot too much sun, nor water. The up to eight meter vines growing up in the trees. The caudex can grow to 20 centimetres or more in diameter. The unisexual inflorescence are greenish yellow.

The name Adenia is derived from aden, meaning gland, and pertains to the glands found on leaves of most of the species. The species name might mean 'group of graceful'?
