This member of the Cucurbitaceae family was given this name by CÚlestin Alfred Cogniaux in 1901. It is found in Namibia and South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The swollen stem can grow to ten centimetres in diameter and reach four metres.
