Brita Stedje and Mats Thulin in 1995. It is from Ethiopia, Kenya,
Somalia and Tanzania,

The genera is named after Prof.
Dr. Carl F. von Ledebour, 1785-1851, a German-Estonian botanist. The
species name after Sir John Kirk, 1832-1922, a British surgeon,
Consul-General and plant collector in East Africa.
