This member of the Asparagaceae family was given this name by Anna
Amelia Obermeyer in 1983. It is found
in Eswatini, Mozambique and eastern South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with
some water and some sun. The rhizomes can grow to three
centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 50 or even 100 centimetres in
height. The
flowers are white to pale pink.
The genera name from Greek
protos; 'first', and asparagos, 'the asparagus plant'.
The species name means 'dense flowered'. |
