This member of the Menispermaceae family was described by Christian Ferdinand Friedrich Hoschstter in 1844. It is found in Uganda, Ethiopia and neighbour countries. It prefers a well drained soil with some to lots of both water and sun. Grows in bush- and savannah areas.
