This member of the Cucurbitaceae family was described by Georg August Schweinfurth and given this name by Albert Deflers in 1895. It is found from Somalia into Arabia, growing in grit or an other well drained soil with little water and some sun. The stem can grow to eight centimetres in diameter and reach a height of 30 centimetres or more.The flowers are yellow.
