This member of the Vitaceae family was given this name by Bernard Verdcourt in 1986. It is found in Kenya, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to 30 centimetres or more, the vines will reach four metres or more.

Seems to be some confusion around the name and origin. IPNI has C. p. Bernardas Verdcourt 1985 as an Kenya species, and again in IPNI: Bernard M. Descoings has named it as Cyphostemma pachypus in 1964, and then as Cyphostemma jiguu in 1986 by Bernardas Verdcourt.
