This member of the Moraceae family was described by Christian Ferdinand Friedrich Hochstetter in 1844 and published correctly in 1851. It is found in Cameroun, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. It grows in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to four centimetres, the stem to 40 centimetres. The flowers are greenish.
