This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was described by Christian Ferdinand Friedrich Hochstetter after Pierre Edmond Boissier in 1862. It is found in Ethiopia, Kenya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, and Yemen, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The stems can grow to six centimetres in diameter, and up to 14 centimetres height.
