This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was described by Werner Rauh in1992. It is found around Toliara, south-western Madagascar, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to five centimetres in diameter, the branches up to 50 centimetres long. The flowers are red-brown.

"sakarahaensis" comes from the place it first was found on Madagascar: Sakaraha.
