   This member of the Polygonaceae family was given this name by Carl Daniel Friedrich Meisner in 1840. It is found in the north-eastern part of South Africa, growing in sand with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow up to three centimetres in diameter, the whole plant up to 30 centimetres in height. The flowers are white.
