This member of the Hyacinthaceae family was given this name by Franz Speta in 1998. It is found in Morocco, Portugal and Spain, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The bulbs can grow to three and a half centimetre, the rather narrow leaves from 12 to 30 or even up to 60 centimetres.

The genera name was introduced by Constantine Samuel Rafinesque in Flora Telluriana 2: 57. 1836[1837]. The species is named after Jules Pierre Rambur,1801-1870, a French entomologist.

*)Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Hyacinthaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae.

The flowers occurs in the spring.
