This member of the Nolinaceae
family was given this name by
Charles Lemaire in 1861. It is found in the
south-western Mexico, growing in a well drained soil with some water and
lots of sun. The stem can grow up to three and a half meter in
diameter and reach five meters in height. The flowers are from crème
coloured to maroon.
genera name after Monsieur Beaucarne, a Belgian succulent plant
grower who first collected flowers of the genera. The species name
means 'tight, close, strait, drawn together'.
