This member of the Fabaceae family was given this name by René Paul Raymond Capuron in 1968. It is found on Madagascar, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The stem grows from 25 to 50 centimetres in diameter, the whole tree will grow from four up to 30 meters high. The flowers are white and yellow.

The genera name from Greek delos; 'evident' or 'conspicuous' and Greek onyx; 'claw' for the long claw of the petals. The species is named after Louis Hyacinthe Boivin, 1808-1852, a French botanist and explorer.
