This member of the Fabaceae family was described by Paul Hermann Wilhelm Taubert in 1894. It is from the eastern part of Africa, growing in rich soil with lots of water and sun. The caudex can grow to 30 centimetres in diameter and 45 centimetres long. The thin branches can reach from 25 to 125 centimetres. The flowers, which usually occurs before the leaves, are violet to blue.

The genera name means 'long' after the fruits. The species name after the mountain.
