This member of the Nyctaginaceae family was given this name by Paul Carpenter Standley in
1931. It is found
in Argentina, Bolivia and Peru, growing in a rich well drained soil with
some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to five
centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 150 centimetres in
height. The
flowers are purple and can have some white.
The genera name is Latin for 'marvellous'.
The species name from the Latin expandare, meaning 'to expand' or
'spread out'. |
