This dioecious member of the Cucurbitaceae was described by Vellozo 1829. It if found in the forests of  Brazil, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex will grow to five centimetres in diameter, the vines can grow up to five meters. The flowers are greenish to yellow.
