This member of the
Bombacaceae* family was
given this name by Joseph Marie Henry Alfred Perrier de la Bāthie in
1953. It is found around Bay al Antsiranana and Antsahampano in
northern Madagascar, growing in a well
drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The stem can grow
to two metres and the giant succulent can reach a height of 25
metres. The flowers are white.
*This family might been incorporated
in the Malvaceae
family now. Sub-family: Bombacoideae,
tribe: Adansonieae.
