This member of the
Passifloraceae family was given this name by Sijfert Hendrik Koorders in 1912. It is found wide spread around in
Borneo, Cambodia, China,
Java, Laos, Lesser Sunda Island, Maluku, New Guinea, Nicobar Island,
Philippines, Sulawesi, Sumatera, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and
Australia. It grows in a well drained soil with some to lots of
water and some sun. The caudex can grow to 35 centimetres or more in
diameter, the vines can reach for three meters. The flowers are pale
yellow, the fruits red.
The name Adenia
is derived from aden, meaning gland, and pertains to the glands
found on leaves of most of the species.
