This member of the CUCURBITACEAE family was described by S. Watson in 1876. Its from the southern part of USA and Mexico. Prefers grit, little water and some sun. The caudex will grow to 10 centimetres, the vines several meters. Can only be reproduced by seeds. The flowers are yellow.

Palmata means "Lobed like a hand".
