This dioecious member of the Cucurbitaceae family was given this name by C. Jeffrey in 1962. It is found the forests of Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The vines will reach up to three meters, the caudex can grow up to fifteen centimetres in diameter. The flowers are yellow.
