Female flower and male buds.

Some male flowers. The females are in the centre, and flower first.

This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was first described by Hooker in 1848. It's found in central America. Prefers good peat, some water and not to much sun. The caudex will grow up to 20 centimetres in diameter, the stems to 1,5 meter. The flowers are red, the male flower starts, but it can self-pollinate. Apparently, it's not possible to make cuttings form a caudex.

The seedpods dry out and explodes.
The seeds can be found five meters away.
