This member of the Cucurbitaceae was given this name by  A.Meeuse in 1962. It is found in the Cape Province of South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can reach 30 centimetres in diameter, the vines two meters length. The flowers are yellow.
