This member of the Aizoaceae family was given this name by Martin Heinrich Gustav Schwanter in 1928. It is found in South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with little to some water and lots of sun. The cluster of swollen roots can grow to thirteen centimetres in diameter, but the plant will only raise to eight centimetre. The flowers are yellow.
