This member of the Gesneriaceae family was described by Hiern in 1877. It is found in Brazil, growing in a well drained soil with some water and little or no sun. The caudex can grow to 20 centimetres in diameter, the leaves reach for 30 centimetres in length. The flowers come from white over pink and red to blue. It can be reproduced both by the tiny seeds and leaf-cuttings.
