This member of Anthericaceae* family was given this name by Anna Amelia Obermayer in 1962. It is found in the eastern Africa, down to the south, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to five centimetres in diameter, the grass-like leaves to 50 centimetres. The flowers are white, and beside seeds, it can be reproduced by root-cuttings.

The genera name means 'round fruits'. The species name after Jonathan Salt, 1759-1815, a British botanist, lichenologist, scientist, zoologist and  entomologist.

')Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Anthericaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae.
