This member of the Cucurbitaceae family was described by Monique Keraudren in 1965. It is found in north-western Madagascar, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to much sun.

The genera name means 'three-arches', as to nectar- bearing perianth and -stamens. The species name after Hugo Leander Blomquist,1888-1964, a Swedish-born American botanist.
