This member of the Pedaliaceae family was given this name by John Jacob Lavranos in 1999. It is found in a small area near Menabe in Western Madagascar, growing in a well drained limestone mix with quite some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to 30 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to five metres in height. The flowers are golden yellow with a darker throat.

The genera is named for the Uncarina tribe of Madagascar. The species is named after the Roman name of the city of Zurich, Turicum , and was chosen to honour the merits of the city and some Zurich citizens in preserving and researching the Madagascan world of succulents.
