This member of the Zamiaceae
family was described by D.W.Stevenson , S.Sabato, P.De Luca and
Moretti in 1995-96 and published in1998. It is only found in the
Northern Veracruz, Mexico. It grows in open forests, in a well
drained soil with some water and some to a lots of sun. The
caudex-like stem will get 10 centimetres in diameter and 30
centimetres high. The leaves up to one meter. Both male and female
cone are brown. As fare as I know, it can only be reproduced by it's
red seeds.
Named after Mario
Vazquez Torres, a Mexican botanist.
Often confused with
Zamia fischeri, which are less numerous in leaves (less than six),
are less than 30 cm long, are reflexed, and have less than 12 pairs
of leaflets.
