This member of the Lycopodiaceae family was given this name by Vittore Benedetto Antonio Trevisan de Saint-Léon in 1874. It is found in north-eastern Queensland, Australia; Tropical Africa and Madagascar to Asia and the Pacific, growing in a rich peat, or as an epiphytic with some to lots of water and some to lots of sun.
